Canary Islands

The Canary Islands can be found within the Spanish archipelago. These islands, found within the North Atlantic Ocean, are all from volcanic origins.There are a total of seven large islands, with one small island and numerous islets of varying sizes. Just found on the northwest coast of Africa, near Morocco and the Sahara.

These islands in congregate, are the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands. The capital city is actually shared between two cities, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The island receives its name from the abundance of dogs that had been first witnessed by the ancient Romans would infrequently entered the island. The name derives from “Island of the Dogs.”

The official language of the Canary Islands is Spanish. The country has a population of around 2 million.
